For the shooting of One Size Fits All this little guy made my kushasha (dirty) pair of Adidas shine. Sure, I paid him the habesha (indigenous) price – in Addis Ababa you can get your shoes polished for 1 birr (0,06 euro cents). But I gave him a special ferenji (stranger) tip: shiny flip flops!

After five exhilirating weeks of shooting, the magic words have been heard on the streets of Addis Ababa: ‘It’s a wrap!’

De toekomst van oorlog op het Afrikaanse continent lijkt verzekerd.Vooral in het oosten van het donkere continent lopen irritaties steeds hoger op. Nu is ruzie in deze explosieve regio niets nieuws.
Denk aan de tribale strijd in Oost-Congo, het grensconflict tussen Eritrea en Ethiopië en de heilige oorlog van moslimterroristen in vrijstaat Somalië. This week the One Size Fits All (OSFA) crew went to the mountains just outside of Addis Ababa to film teenage running stars Abebe and Afternake.
These young athletes come from a small village near the Ethiopian capital and train like maniacs. They get up early every morning to either run in the mountains or work on their stamina on the stairs of Meskel Square. All this to achieve their one big goal: becoming the new Kenenisa Bekele or Haile Gebrselassie (more…)
