Here we go: Wikileaks reveals US cables on Ethiopia

Wikileaks has published US cables on Ethiopia, one being a diplomatic report about the “hot tempered” intelligence chief Getachew Assefa. This hardliner, who rarely meets with anyone – even senior US diplomats and PM Meles Zenawi have trouble talking to him – is said to take decisions in isolation. In a rare interview, Getachew talks about Ethiopian insurgent groups, regional instability and the Ethiopian opposition parties:

“Getachew commented on Ethiopia’s opposition leadership underscoring that he wishes to see a vibrant opposition movement, but currently, the NGO community and foreign missions support the opposition blindly without critical analysis,” reports former US ambassador to Ethiopia Donald Yamamoto to Washington.
